How To Choose A Quality Aloe Product

3 Simple Tips to Find the Best Aloe Vera Gel Products Your Skin Deserves

What you put on your skin seeps into your body the same way food does. Chemicals common in makeup products or skincare products can cause long term health problems. That’s why natural, high-quality skin products matter.

So how can you sort through all the fluff and spot high-quality products and separate them from the rabble?

Here’s how you can spot the best aloe vera gel, and know you’re getting a good product.

  1. Make Sure You’re Buying Aloe Vera

With more people turning to alternative, natural ingredients, the aloe vera market is booming. Everyone is getting on the aloe vera boat. And there’s a lot of labeling tricks they can use to make you feel like you’re buying an aloe vera product, without actually including that much aloe.

For example, the label might say something like “Aloe Vera 100% Gel”, but this just means that the product is 100% gel, and has Aloe Vera. It’s not 100% Aloe Vera Gel.

Make sure aloe vera is the first ingredient on the list – not water or a substitute or a gel. Also keep in mind how natural aloe vera gel looks – pretty dang clear. If the gel is green, it means the manufacturer added coloring.

  1. Read the Label VERY Carefully

Aloe vera products aren’t regulated by the FDA, which means they can mislead the consumer. What’s on the label may not be what’s in the bottle. Like we saw above, subtly shifting wording can allow them to legally sell an aloe vera product, even if there’s as little as 15% aloe.

Keep an eye out for other ingredients such as ones you don’t recognize or can’t pronounce. Many aloe vera products have alcohol in them too, which dries out your skin.

Don’t trust a brand that says it’s preservative-free. Pure aloe vera gel is like milk – it has a very short shelf life. Preservatives help the gel last longer, and they’re vital in most products and generally safe for the user. Unless you keep your aloe vera gel in the refrigerator, and it has an expiration date within a week or two, it must have preservatives.

  1. Stand By Your Values

When you start to explore the world of beauty products, you quickly realize it’s not a friendly place. Companies use animal testing to design their products. As a result, hundreds of thousands (yes, 100,000 to 200,000 animals every year) suffer and die for cosmetic testing.

Many products also include chemicals that damage the environment like phosphates and parabens. Ingredients are grown with dangerous and damaging agricultural practices or unfair labor regulations.

So when you buy new products to replace your old ones, make sure they meet your standards for creating a more beautiful world. Look for organic ingredients that are phosphate and paraben-free. Make sure they’re cruelty-free.

When you do your research, you know you’re getting a quality product.
